PVCS Introduction
The Pomona Valley Chinese School (PVCS) was
founded in 1976 as a non-profit organization. PVCS is presently
located at the Upland Jr. High School campus in Upland,
California, serving about 200 students from approximately 150
families living in the cities of Pomona, Upland, Claremont, Rancho
Cucamonga, Ontario, Montclair, Fontana, Rialto, San Bernardino, La
Verne, Chino, and Chino Hills.¡@
Since its founding, PVCS has been providing
Chinese language education and promoting Chinese culture within our
community. The Chinese community has grown to become the second
largest ethnic group in the Inland Empire. To meet the demand
accompanying this growth, we have expanded from a one class structure
to the current twelve-class system. PVCS welcomes all prospective
students, even those who have no Chinese language background. PVCS has
adopted English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching concepts and
techniques to supplement its traditional methods. Also available are
the Bilingual class and the Accreditation Program for students of the
Upland, Claremont, and Chaffey Unified School Districts. To meet
accreditation criteria, our curriculum mainly focuses on Simplified
Chinese. We offer many other extracurricular activities as well.
PVCS is funded mainly by tuition and fund
raising activities, including scrip programs. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, your donations to PVCS may qualify for Federal Income
Tax exemption.
